a segurança tem sido usada amiúde ao longo dos tempos como justificação para de algum modo comprometer outro valor em maior ou menor medida, a liberdade. há muitas interpretações de segurança e outras tantas de liberdade, como se pode ler por exemplo neste excelente artigo do guardian sobre um novo livro acerca da net - e do efeito de certos gadgets populares. é importante, porque cada vez mais a net se tem de defender como espaço privilegiado de liberdade.
